We’ve Moved!

In October 2014, H & H Specialties moved to our new facility in City of Industry, California.  We are now integrated into one large, 58,000 foot facility instead of spread out in four separate buildings as we were in South El Monte.  If you are in the Los Angeles area, please stop by and we would love to give you the tour.

Again this year, H & H Specialties has offered student scholarships to the USITT Conference & Stage Expo March 18-21, 2015, in Cincinnati, OH.  Six students who signed up before the Very Early Registration deadline this year will have their conference fees returned courtesy of H & H Specialties.  The six were chosen at random by USITT staff from all that signed up before the deadline.  The only qualification was that recipients must have been members of USITT for at least one year.  This year we congratulate John Hobson, Kiah Kayser, Alexandra Mauch, Michael Mellul, Timothy Strickland, and Courtney Winkelman.

Model 488EZ, EZstop Curtain Controller

Introduced at LDI in Las Vegas at LDI in November 2013, the EZstop Curtain Controller is a user-friendly, easily programmable, 10-stop curtain machine controller.  The factory-installed option may be added to all curtain machines manufactured by H & H Specialties.  Programming of the eight intermediate stops is similar in idea to that of an automobile radio, it’s EZ.  Jog the curtain to the desired position, and hold until the indicator light flashes and the position is set.

EZstop features simple, intuitive setup and operation.  Mechanical limit switches are provided for end-of-travel positions with eight programmable intermediate stop positions.  Control station is an industrial 7” color touchscreen with position feedback graphically displayed on screen.  Automatic coast offset provided for position accuracy as well as on-screen diagnostics.  Curtain machines equipped with EZstop may also be controlled by a third party front end with up to 99 individual EZstop addresses.  EZstop is the ideal solution for viewing rooms with multi-format projection or any application where bi-directional multi-stop control of a curtain machine is desired.  Your solution is EZstop.  Contact the factory today for additional information.

No. 451 Really Useful Carrier

The Really Useful Carrier lives up to its name!  The wheels have recently been upgraded with a shielded precision ball bearing that is custom made for our application.  This carrier has a working load of 200 pounds and can be used in a variety of applications for tracking scenery, lighting, and other elements.

No. 451A Really Useful Carrier

How do you make a Really Useful Carrier more useful?  We add a third set of wheels installed on the body.  The third set of wheels helps prevent tipping when a potentially unbalanced load is supported by two or more carriers.  This model is also equipped with wheels that feature precision shielded ball bearings for smoother operation and longevity.

Model 228 Carrier

H & H Specialties introduces our new Model 228 Black Single Carrier. With the popularity of the urethane-tired wheels for the 400 Series and 500 Series tracks, a new urethane-tired carrier has been developed for the 200 Series. The urethane tire allows the carrier to roll smoothly and quiet while accommodating a heavier curtain.  This carrier has a recommended working load of 10 pounds.

Stacking Space Estimator

How much space does it take to stack a curtain? The H & H Specialties’ Stacking Space Estimator will calculate it for you!  A simple Excel tool is available in the “Resources” section of our website. The estimator will calculate the track hardware stacking space for you once you enter the number of carriers into the spreadsheet. Note: for heavyweight and lined curtains, additional stacking space will be required to accommodate the density of the fabric(s).

Catalog Sixteen

Catalog Sixteen is now available. After years of development, the new catalog of stage curtain tracks, electric curtain machines and light duty rigging is complete. The catalog has been expanded to include many new products.

There are many updated charts and other useful information on product application. Of special note is the Recommended Track Hanger Spacing chart of page 4.

The Model 459 Draw Curtain Machine has been a popular item the past thirty years.  This traction drive curtain machine can be used on very long tracks or where the machine must be located a short vertical distance between it and the curtain track.

Our latest version is a result of requests from many Consultants to provide curtain machines for variable acoustic tracks in theatres and concert halls. The unit is equipped with a special gear reducer that is filled with synthetic lubricant and sealed for life, therefore, future maintenance is reduced.  The machine base is also designed with an integral drip pan and tension device enclosure/drapery deflector. For acoustical curtains, we have two popular speeds: 31 and 41 feet per minute.  Other speeds are available, please consult the factory. We also offer the options of magnetic disc brakes, encoders, variable speed drives, three phase motors, and low voltage DC control circuits. Unit shown has the optional encoder and three phase motor installed.

We like this design so much that all of our 459 Draw Curtain Machines are now manufactured with these improved features at no added cost. For machines used with performance curtains we still offer faster operating speeds per our catalog.
